Philosophy

We grow the grape varieties typical of the Rheingau region, Riesling and Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder). We have recently added two varieties, new for us, to our collection of vines, Pinot Blanc (Weissburgunder) and Sauvignon Blanc. We currently grow grapes on 12 ha (30 acres) in the Erbacher Steinmorgen, Erbacher Siegelsberg, Erbacher Michelsmark, Kiedricher Sandgrub and Hallgartner Jungfer terroirs. The soils of our vineyards are primarily loess soils (silt loams) with abundant Taunus quartzite that impart the distinctive mineral finish on the palate.

The cultivation of our vines follows practices close to nature and is environmentally friendly. The experienced master vintner Heinz Nikolai knows these fields like the back of his hand and can readily judge just exactly what the vines need to achieve optimal growth under the constantly changing conditions that Mother Nature dispenses.

Our maxim is to maintain our grapes at the optimal quality from flowering until harvest, a time-honored approach that always delivers exceptional quality in our wines, since their foundation is constituted in the vineyard.
